The Kia brand is back at it again, creating new car technology that continues to wow customers and dealers alike. Today, we’ve learned that automaker’s engineers have some exciting stuff in the works, including a wireless fast-charging electric vehicle. Read on, and we’ll pass along all of the most important details courtesy of cnet.com.

As a joint-effort with Mojo Mobility and the Department of Energy’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, Kia professionals are well on their way toward a more convenient and efficient charging method. There are no concrete plans to bring this technology into the lineup yet, but we have a feeling it will be incorporated into new EV models in the coming years.

This wireless charging solution would provide more than 10 kilowatts of power to a vehicle with a grid-to-vehicle efficiency rate of 85 percent, and it wouldn’t require spot-on parking precision to work. Just like wireless phone chargers many Samsung users now utilize, this charger would have a transmitter coil built into the base and then it would have a receiver built into the vehicle.

While some energy will be lost in the process, the majority of the power will transfer when the two coils line up and an electromagnetic field allows the transfer of energy. There will be no plugging and unplugging, just easy charging every time you park in your special charging parking spot.

The Kia Soul EV is hotter on the market than ever, showing affordability and efficiency go hand-in-hand.
