When you get a flat, it’s always a pain. Jake Sweeney Kia knows that if you’re not prepared, it can be a serious problem. So today, we want to spell out the basic steps of repairing a flat for our Cincinnati area customers to make sure that they are prepared in case things happen.

The first step to fixing a flat tire is to get your vehicle somewhere safe to repair it. You may be driving when the flat occurs, so lower your speed safely and get to either the side of the road, a parking lot, or anywhere with low traffic, so you can walk around your vehicle safely. Most vehicles have a spare kit, consisting of a spare tire, scissor jack, and a tire iron, either in the trunk or secured under the vehicle. Find it, remove it, and it’s time to get to work.

First off, take your tire iron and loosen the lug nuts on your flat tire. Then put the jack in place and raise it until the tire lifts off of the ground. Hand-unscrew the lug nuts and remove them, then take the tire off and replace with the spare. You may need to raise the jack if the wheel studs don’t line up. With the spare on, hand-tighten the lug nuts around them, then let the jack drop. Then you can tighten the lug nuts with your tire iron, and you’ll be good to go.

Where to go from there though? Why, our Kia service center! Our top-notch Kia technicians and experts can scan your vehicle and make sure that no other problems have occurred due to the flat, and can provide you with a new tire or new wheel if needed.

Remember, you can also come in for routine scheduled maintenance to keep your Kia in top shape. Here’s hoping the next time we see you, it’s for that.
